Experiencing A Midlife Crisis? It May Be Midlife Male Menopause

A midlife crisis, which is commonly called as a male menopause or a midlife male menopause, refers to the various physiological, chemical and hormonal changes that take place during the middle age in a man's life. Midlife male menopause is commonly experienced after reaching the age of forty. This period is also commonly called as the midlife crisis that every man encounters when he has reached the middle of his life.

A midlife crisis is in many ways comparable to the teenage crisis because of the behavioral and emotional roller coasters that an individual goes through while experiencing these periods in his life. While the teenage years mark the onset of the hormonal changes and the beginning of the sexually reproductive age, the midlife crisis marks the beginning of a gradual decay in the hormonal levels in the body and an accompanying downfall in the sexual performance in general and the male libido in particular. Both the beginning and the downfall of the sexually reproductive phase is marked by a lot of churning inside our bodies that are a result of the rapid changes in the hormonal levels inside our bodies.

A man undergoing a midlife male menopause behaves similarly as he did during the teenage years. The primary difference between the two events is that they are separated by a span of around thirty years. This thirty-year period that lies between the teenage years and the midlife male menopause represents the peak of the sexual productive age for men. Men are sexually most productive during this period. The preceding period constitutes the childhood of a man while the succeeding period is marked with a declining interest in sex.

Although men are biologically capable of siring children well into their dusk years, but they are most suited for reproduction before the onset of the midlife male menopause. In this way, the midlife male menopause may be considered as a normal phase of a healthy individual that is experienced by all the men. Just like the teenage years, while some men are unable to cope with this phase, others are able to sail through this period with relative ease.

Just as the teenage crisis requires a careful supervision and intervention by the other family members, the midlife male menopause also requires the family members to support and help the individual in coming out of this change in the hormone levels with ease and without any major disruption to the normal life. In some of the cases, if things seem to be going out of hand, the midlife male menopause may require a medical intervention.

Midlife male menopause is a natural outcome of the normal ageing process that is more pronounced in some individuals as compared to the others. However, the society in general and the immediate family in particular should take a kind and passionate view of this phenomenon and help the individual tide over this crisis rather than showing a general lack of understanding and contempt for such individuals which makes things look more gloomy for the people experiencing midlife male menopause.
